A Celebration for Nell

Nell had tried something a little different for dinner tonight. She'd made a large, and hopefully tasty, vegetable stir fry and had stir-fried some beef in a different pan so those wanting meat could have some. She also had homemade sourdough bread, salad, and a vegetable broth based soup to start the meal.

The apartment was spic and span, the cats were happily curled up on their cat trees, for however long that would last, and she thought she was prepared as she could be for her first ever birthday celebration. Now to wait somewhat anxiously for her guests.

"Well, I've not been disappointed by anything you've made yet," Watts pointed out. "So I've high hopes."

"Like with a concert?" Steven said, bumping Llewellyn's shoulder again.

"Precisely so," Watts said, beaming back at him. "That was- phenomenal," he continued. "There's something unmatched about live music. Being able to feel it in your bones." He really needed to get looking at current concerts, see if there was anything worth going to see on the mainland anytime soon.

"Maybe we should have that on the list for next trip," Steven said, brightening as he thought about it. "Seeing a concert over in London. Oh! And one of the museums does music as well. Special occasions, not every night I'm afraid. But it's lovely."

"Of course," Lana said, nodding. "Though I hope it won't be neccessary."

"That was also a consideration, yes," Lana agreed. "Maybe next time I should get you a nexu kitten."

"Well, colour me intrigued," Watts said. "I would love to attend a concert in London with you. Perhaps even a play as well, if we wanted to be very cultured."

"I'm a widder woman and all growed up," Nell informed him in her best church speak. "I can do that any day of the week if I want."

Nell laughed. "Me too."

"Some of the buildings in France were lovely, so I can imagine," Lana said. "Not to mention the wine and cheeses."

"Same," Marc said. "Place has been working out pretty good so far for Steven. Be nice to come back to it."

Just Steven, of course. Marc wasn't making friends or anything.

"Welcome, Steven!" Lana said, waving. She was a little disappointed he and Marc hadn't come together; she'd been rather looking forward to seeing what that was like. Still, she did get each of them in turn.

"Oh West End!" Steven said, brightening at the suggestion. "Can't believe I didn't think of it. Globe as well. Have to see Shakespeare there, don't we?"

Steven laughed. "Suppose you could. Good thing since your actual birthday's tomorrow. Can have all the cake tonight and no one could stop you."

Naturally.

"Well, I'd miss you both if you didn't, but let's not borrow trouble. May your trip be uneventful."

That was something Marc and Steven needed to work up to around other people, let alone groups. But perhaps someday!

Steven waved back. "Lana, hello! How are you?"

"Same for your weekend," Marc said, because why not go ahead and jinx things?

"Oh the wine," Watts said enthusiastically. "Portugal is known for wine as well- different varieties than you'll find in France, but still amazing quality. We participated in a wine-tasting tour in Porto, one of the cities we stayed in." Well, Watts had participated, really. Steven had mostly just listened to Watts be a giant nerd about the wine.

"What's a nexu kitten?" Nell asked a little warily.

"I'm doing well. And you?" Lana asked.

"All the more reason to go back again, isn't it?" Watts pointed out.

"Here's hoping," Lana agreed. Though she was thinking more along the lines of nobody trying to sabotage the Alliance.

"I confess I'm more knowledgeable about whisky," Lana said. "How is the wine different as compared to France's?"

"That's right," Nell said. "Though I've no interest in spending the night with a bellyache from too much cake, so I'll probably share it with all of you'uns."

"All right," Steven said. "Headed back to London for the weekend. What about you? Are you doing Homecoming?"
