Tuesday Night at Nell's

Nell might have been singing quietly as she went about getting ready for guests this evening. She might also have tucked away -ie: where Ignis wouldn't run across them - two odd flavors of Cup Noodle: champignon and Cup Noodle Breakfast. Just in case someone wanted to try them.

Otherwise she had the usual snacks and baked goods, as well as celebratory cupcakes. Now she just needed guests!

Thanks a little mishap in the kitchen, Gladio and Ignis were running a little late that evening, but they did eventually make it, and you'd better believe that Gladio had not forgotten to bring some new drink for them all to try, this time something a little fancy, because why not?

"My, that's fancy," Nell said with a smile. "And raspberry lemonade. Delicious."

She was all smiles. Not because of the drink, though she was eager to give it a try.

Gladio had to admit, he was having a difficult time keeping a grin off his face, as well. It was nice, to be getting back to doing this again, and, obviously, just to get the chance to spend more time with Nell again.

"And look," he added, pointing to the bottle, "it's got plants on it, too."

It felt like a pretty solid selling point, really!

"Perfect," Nell said with a smile. She was fairly giddy just having him here again herself. "How did the rest of your gym day go?"

The less said about the 'kitchen incident', the better, but Ignis had still managed to make it out of there with a presentable 'cheese'cake and something a little more savory and bite-sized, as well.

After a few weeks of making food intended to be frozen and kept for a while, it was nice to lean into something a bit fresher for the evening.

"Oh, Ignis..." Nell examined the little pinwheels. "Those look wonderful. What a great idea! And these, are they cheesecake?"

"With heavy quotation marks around the cheese part of it," Ignis offered. "Cashews and coconut milk instead; I always feel it never hurts to veer toward dairy-free when planning what to make for these evenings, with respect to the Detective's current dietary proclivities. Though I'll admit it does lack a certain creamy richness found in a more traditional cheesecake, I do enjoy seeing how to come up with various substitutions. Where there is a will, there is a way.

"...though certainly not...a whey."

Forgive him the terrible food pun, Nell, he didn't get nearly enough opportunities.

"I've found there are some things that translate fairly well to a vegan diet, but others..." she shook her head, "Not so good. I'll be interested to try these."

And then she tilted her head to the side and looked at him as her brain processed. Then she chuckled. "Oh, you."
