Tuesday Night at Nell's

For some reason Nell had decided that she wanted to try something different tonight. She'd made her own pizza dough and fresh tomato sauce and had portioned the dough out so that everyone could make - or have her make if they'd rather - their own individual pizza with whatever toppings they chose. She had, of course, been sure to have some vegan cheese and plenty of vegetable choices should the Detective join them, in addition to the more usual cheeses and meats. There were also a number of herbs and spices set out to add at the end for just the right extra dash of flavor.

She hoped her guests would think they were fun

When Gladio came across drinks that came in pouches, he knew that he had to bring those as his drink offerings for the gathering at Nell's that evening. Little did he know that he had inadvertently picked up one of Prompto's favorite from his time here as a student, but, hey, they didn't have anything like that back home, so he thought they were pretty neat.

So he brought a few packs of those along, but his attention was immediately caught by the aroma in the air when he came in. "Pizza?" he guessed.

"Pizza," Nell said with a smile. "My pizza. And you can even decide what you want on it and eat it fresh from the oven."

"Well, look at you," Gladio said, grinning at Nell as he looked very impressed. "Don't let it get out to Raiden, he might have to start worrying about you encroaching in on his business."

But there was a pause, as a thought seemed to strike him and he lifting a speculative brow at her.

"....anything we want on it?" he ventured hopefully.

"Mine are small batch individual pizzas," she assured him. "No danger to Raiden's concoctions.

Then she shook her head and laughed as she pointed to the variety of Cup Noodle she had set out on the table. "You may have to experiment with whether you need to cook the noodles partway or not, though."

By the time he was done with his shift at the diner, Ignis was feeling quite pumpkined out already. So while he brought along some of the pumpkin bread from earlier, he went with something familiar, with his beanball croquettes, but with an interesting new sauce to try it with.

And when he picked up on the scent of what Nell had been working with that evening, he had to admit, he was starting to think that new sauce could have some other interesting implications, as well.

"Those look - and smell - delicious, Iggy," Nell said. "I can't wait to try one!"

She sniffed at the sauce. "Is that ranch and...jalapeno?"

Oh, some of the dough could be cooked to make little breadsticks which would be great with the dip as they cooked!

Or even just the pizza itself! Ranch and pizza were a very satisfying combination, as well.

But the reaction from Nell made Ignis grin a little, faintly proud, and always pleased whenever his culinary offerings was greeted with her enthusiasm.

"It is, indeed," he confirmed. "You've got an excellent nose, Nell, perhaps to even rival mind. But since we all have an appreciation for a little kick in our food, I figured it would be a welcome addition to a more conventional ranch sauce."

"I must admit, I do like spice," Nell said. "Which is why I have spices to add to any of the pizzas or to the sauce itself to spice it up."

"Hello!" Lana called as she came in. "How are you tonight?"

"Lana!" Nell said. "I'm well! Come in, hospitality and safety. We're making our own pizzas today. How are you doing? You had class today, right?"

"Pizzas?" Lana asked. "That sounds interesting. Yes, the class I'm teaching with Rand. I think it's going well so far. Are you taking anything this term?" She frowned. "Have I asked you that already? It's been a full few days."

"At the picnic," Nell said. "You were terribly surprised to hear I was taking physical education with Gladio."

"Oh, that's right." Lana grinned. "Has the class met yet?"

"Not till Thursday," Nell said. "I'm looking forward to it. For, you know, reasons."

"Purely innocent and athletic reasons," Lana agreed.

Nell giggled. She couldn't help it. "Totally innocent reasons. Though I understand the instructor is quite handsome." She glanced over at Gladio as she spoke.

"I have that on good authority," Lana agreed. "But I hear he's taken."

"Really?" Nell said, darting another glance over. "Pity. But it's still okay to look, right?"

"So long as I have eyes, I'll look," Lana said cheerfully.
